History of guidning

Pedafooni 2B, 2010 in english
The publication surveys the history of guided tours in art museums, cultural history museums, and natural history museums. Who have the guides been? Who the audience? What has the subject matter included? How have the tours been carried out? The publication examines the relationship between guided tours and the museum’s other functions, such as education, public engagement, research, and the organisation of exhibitions, all of which vary across different types of museums. History of guiding is available both in Finnish and English.

It’s all Mediating. Conference report

Pedafooni 3, 2013

The publication is based on the international seminar It’s All Mediating, organised in May 2012. It concentrates on the problematic relationship between two basic functions of a museum: exhibitions and public engagement. The seminar concentrated on questions about how the aims of museum curators and public engagement professionals both agree and disagree, how they distribute their work, what their core values are, and how collaboration between the two professions can be improved. The seminar was organised together with The Finnish Society for Curators, Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Finnish Museums Association, and Aalto University’s Master’s Programme in Curating, Managing and Mediating Art (CuMMA), with support from The Finnish Museum of Photography, Helsinki Art Museum, Pori Art Museum, and Rauma Art Museum.
